I was wondering if the arms race between Hulu/Amazon/Netflix/Regular TV etc. is having a tangible effect in LA.

I am not in the industry or anything like that but I was just curious if all this content creation is felt in LA and how you guys are seeing it. Is everybody there super busy – from stage hands, to writers, to actors? Or is the money flowing to the usual suspects without seeing a significant spreading of the wealth effect? Or are more shows/movies made in other states?

I heard Andy Richter from the Conan O’Brien show say in an interview that pay for mainstream acting jobs is way down in the era of streaming. He said that he gets offered about 50% less for an acting job compared to 10-15 years ago. My feeling is that YouTube and social media are stealing away some of the audience that used to watch exclusively network/cable TV. LA is also a big player in the “new media” scene so it’s not necessarily an drag on the overall entertainment industry in LA but there are bound to be some winners and losers.

Also there are many more people into the arts these days. Has movies and TV have become a bigger part of our lives, so has attracted more people to the industry. Everyone nowadays wants to be a celeb. So supply has definitely increased dragging down pay.

Good, way too many overpaid for what they do.

Can't speak to the trickle down effect, but I know executives in the TV industry who are salivating with the entry of Amazon, Netflix, and now Apple to the distribution business. These companies bring their massive wallets and are willing to spend top dollar to content creators and production companies for new shows.

Wife has been in the industry for 15 years here..

Amazon, Netflix and Hulu are the ABC, NBC and CBS of 25 years ago. There is a reason why executives from Sony and FOX other industry outlets are jumping to Apple and Netflix.

As far as what effect it has on LA... not really sure what you are asking. They are creating more jobs and opportunities for people to work behind the scenes. There is still a place for the traditional guys, but similar to retail, they are dying a slow death.

Thank you..............I am pretty much streaming full time and watching a lot of content on Netflix and the like and it seems like so many of theses shows like Flaked, Marc Maron and plenty of Netflix originals are filmed in and around LA.

I wondered the same thing as the originals seem to be increasing in numbers. On the other hand it is great seeing some of the characters from Mad Men to name one series finding small parts in these originals.

As you say, all the writers, prop people, camera people, etc, where are they coming from or are there still plenty of people in the business to meet the demand.
