Read this: Number of Craigslist victims increases - Pasadena Star-News

Quote:
COVINA - It was another day of heartbreak and devastation on Calera Avenue as more families discovered they are among at least 50 people who have fallen victim to fraud.

The families all lost thousands of dollars after responding to an online ad on Craigslist to rent a home at 5441 N. Calera Ave, in an unincorporated area near Covina. Some of them are now homeless.

The owner wrote me a email today,
thant we can pay 1100$now
and threst when we get there.
And there is one thing,
she doesnt want give me her bank account,
she wants me to get a money order or something..
is that normal that you dont wanna give your account number???
I dont understand it at all,
because here in Poland is obvious that someon just send you money on your account

yes, that's normal, and now she probably thinks YOU are the scammer for even asking. we don't give out our bank account numbers to strangers FOR ANY REASON. (only exception: to employers for electronic deposit of wages)rent deposits are paid by bank-issued cashier's checks or money orders (for smaller amounts), and most landlords accept personal checks for monthly rent payments.

DONT DO IT!!! Save the $, get a motel when you first get there, save the money and put it down on a deposit when you arrive. Otherwise you're getting ripped off and it will only add to the stigma of polish jokes you'll hear.
