Gringo looking for an 'authentic' place to celebrate Cinco De Mayo. Don't think El Torrito is gonna cut it. Anywhere in LA County, perferably the LA basin from East LA to the sea.

I dont think there's an authentic Cinco De Mayo celebration anymore as there are numerous celebrations going on all over L.A. and not one is more authentic than the other. Its just another excuse to party

Very funny. Well, Central Americans immigrants don't generally celebrate a Mexican-American holiday.

Yeah, I guess I think St. Patricks day is pretty over-hyped so I suppose you can say the same for Cinco de Mayo.

Cinco de Mayo is a much bigger holiday in the US than it is in Mexico. In Mexico it's only a big deal in Puebla (where the battle that it commemorates it happened). It is truly an American holiday. We Americans love any excuse for a party, regardless of what country it comes from - we'd even celebrate the Moroccan Green March if it meant a big party. (Considering the amount of hash that comes from Morocco, if Americans were to celebrate the March Vert it would be a fantastic party if it were ever to catch on!)

Yes, I realize that. THat was my point by comparing Cinco De Mayo to St. Patty's Day, which is NOT a big deal at all in Ireland.

Budweiser or Corona seems to work well. That and some fish tacos.

go to el mercadito.

its on first and lorena in east LA.

there is construction from the soon-to-open gold line of los angeles de oro roybal, but it should be easy to access. go up to the second floor. the bottom floor is like a swap meet. on the second floor they have restaurants and mariachi. good beer. economical prices.

good times.

sometimes i end up with friends there on a sunday night. very chill. not crowded. good music.

good luck.

other than that...
any bar in LA.
