Are you talking about the West Hollywood Halloween Carnival? I went to that three years ago, and had a great time. The place was packed; get there early to get a good parking spot! I was there to see my favorite cover band, but the costumes were something else! There were some gay people, of course, but there were also a lot of straight couples, single people with friends, etc. This isn't advertised so much, anymore, because it's such a big, well known event now. If you go, have a great time!

the gay guys really get into it (and come up with some fabulously creative costumes, btw), but it's a community event in which anyone who chooses may participate. last year i took a family with two small kids who were new to the US and the whole halloween thing, and a great time was had by all. if you've never experienced it, go and be sure to take your camera. a small percentage of the costumes are a bit risque, and a few are genuinely scary for young children, so you use your best judgment if you're considering taking little ones.

I found a YouTube video of it... and by the way, that band I like so much? Their performance starts at 06:47.

If you aren't homophobic you should go! The costumes are amazing and it draws a huge crowd from miles around. One of the best Halloween's I had was in a famous gay bar in the seventies. The guys thought I was a guy in drag and kept pinching my butt

you know, i can't remember if there are street vendors that serve alcohol, but all the bars/restaurants along the boulevard are open for business as usual.
