The Downtown News had a article about how unappealing the station is aesthetically, which I have to agree with. I'm hopeful that more foot-traffic and activity around there will spur some improvements.

I have taken the Blue Line many times. I never had any problems. It is public transportation so don't expect it to feel like a first class flight. But you will be fine. There are many people who work downtown that ride the train. Obviously, you want stay attentive. However, you should be fine.

Some people on this board would feel uncomfortable anywhere. They would be afraid if they found themselves in the middle of a day care center surrounded by toddlers. You are doing the right thing. Give more wieght to the input from people who frequent the train vs. those who avoid it because they are afraid of the neighborhoods it passes through.

Nights and late nights are some of the best times to ride the blue line. It's always relatively busy yet not so crowded that you don't get a seat. Anyone worried about safety should ride in the first car, but it's not that big of a deal. The only time that I avoid riding is when schools get out. The HS kids can get rowdy.
