Went to boston and florida this week and noticed how angry the people seem to be compared to cali people.anyone else ever had this experience.the traffic in boston is a nightmare.I think it is worse than LA on 95.The people are really peed off up there and Floridas cubans are much worse than the mexicans as far as having a bad attitude and the world owes me a handout outlook.for those who complain about negative only posting on the LA board I have to say your a much better group that is all californians than the angry uptight east coasters.I dont know why but everyone I encountered seems to be pissed.Anyone else ever notice this or did I just grow to laid back after time on the left coast. My blood pressure started to boil just being around the people

Me, I am tickled pink. I bought low in 2000 and the house is worth 4x now. So CA rules!

People on the east coast are tired in March because it's grey and cold and winter has worn them out. No, I don't think they are more angry over there. Maybe more direct, but it's a different culture.

ferretkona,

Your house is only worth what someone pays for it. Lots of people are sitting in houses that they think have doubled in price, but what the house sells for is another story.

I live in philly (moving to LA in may) and I think people on the east coast have way worse attitudes than people on the west. When I flew back from LA to Philly, it was almost instant as we got into the airport. People were pushing into eachother, rude attitudes left and right. I think that people here are more quick to assume that everyone is out to get them or have bad intentions right off the back. In LA I felt like people actually smiled at eachother and said hello while walking down the street. I don't live in La yet so it might not be so peachy keen all the time, but Philly is definatly CRANKY all the time. even in the summer. (and I've been here for 7-8 years now)

As far as the east coast goes, the majority of the northeastern states are much ruder and angry, but down south (where I'm from/live) people are friendly and very laid back. As with any other place, there are a few rude people here and a few nice people up north..

SoCal is like a second home to me and I've had a lot of experience there for months at a time...the people I've met seem nice enough, but it seems that the people in Los Angeles aren't as nice or laid back as the people from NorCal.

What I find is lacking here is real character, not characters for which we are never lacking. When we lived in Boston people were so open and helpful when we got lost, people would actually help walk us to areas we needed to get to. A family I barely knew invited us to a holiday dinner which had never happended to us living in Ca. my whole life! The wait staff at most restaurants were so down to earth and personable that we would keep coming back just to see them. One waiter actually sat down with us when we first moved there to help us navigate our way around the city to different restaurants and markets and to help us find things that would interest our young son. Here I feel lonely amongst millions, there I felt part of something. It tells you something about a place that is loyal to a losing baseball team for 80 something years and never waivers or leaves the ballpark at the seventh inning stretch! So much spirit there. That was our experience and looking forward to more of the same.

Having grown up in the NYC suburbs, and having lived in SoCal for 10+ years, I will say without hesitation that people in the East are cranky! I don't mind it so much, I think it's actually kinda fun.

People back east are much less likely to be offended or take stuff personally. There is a lot less political correctness too. People like to talk and be animated and passionate and curse and talk trash.. I think it's fun.

That said, customer service in the west is generally much better - people smile, and are more friendly than people back east.

I have mixed feelings about it. I love the directness of the eastcoast, but I love the environment of the west. I raised my daughter out west, and she is a typical westcoaster: friendly, chipper, polite, more quiet, indirect, etc. She and I have our outs when I am so direct -- I just can't seem to get into that polite mode all the time.

On the other hand, when I have moved back and forth between west and eastcoast, I have noticed a sense of doom and gloom from eastcoasters. I had gotten used to the "go for it" phrase in the west, and in the east, it was more like "oh, that could never work..." It seems in the west more people are positive and willing to try new things.

When my daughter was an exchange student, she met up with other kids from the other states and one girl from TN said to her, "You're like what we think of as Californians: you're nice, polite, funny, positive, pretty, and kind," as if that was an insult. And then this girl from the south proceeded to tell my daughter that they have humorous greeting cards that say, "You're must be from California" and a picture of a UFO on them (!), like all westcoast people are spaced out.

My compromise is that I generally tend to hang out more with eastcoast people who live in the west. That way, I get to have the polite atmosphere, the good environment, but I don't have to be afraid to speak my mind!!
