Get educated, don't become a drug addict, earn a living, support yourself. It's not that hard.

I said it once to a stranger on the street who was criticizing me at that moment...When a production-capable young worker in his most productive years works full-time, goes to college, is somewhat intelligent, studious, law-abiding, and a veteran for several years, AND he can't afford a self-pursued living condition such as a studio, health care, and sustain himself, we have a true problem in this country...
I think your post is off topic and more political. Capitalism is freedom. get over it or move.

America isn't the wealthiest because of socialism

This post was poignant. I was living in my car, off and on, for almost five months back in 2001. I didn't know anybody in LA at the time as I had just moved there from back east. For me, it was an exciting time. I didn't have too many worries as to where to sleep. Either at Santa Monica beach in the parking lot or nearby on Ocean Ave. You just had to be sure to awake before the meters active time started.

Sometimes, I would park up in one of the parking structures on 2nd St or at the Albertson's at Lincoln and Ocean Park. I was asked by security one night in the parking structure to move but they weren't nasty about it at all. When I wasn't sleeping in the car I stayed at a hostel for a few days just as a break from the car. I started working in September and got my apartment the same month.

But now a days things have really changed. People are not as tolerant as they once were. And the police are really enforcing those vagracy laws in certain areas. Unfortunately the way America is going a lot more people will be out of their homes and sleeping in cars pretty soon. Then, you'll really have to be careful where you park to sleep because the frustration the system will continue to bring down on the massses will cause people to loose all consideration, understand and respect for each other. In other words, do not take it for granted when you learn you should not park in a certain area! The police are going to be arbitrary and take peoples cars and make them go through all kinds of drama.

People have offered up some good information on where one could go to sleep in their car like Wal-mart. I had no idea. I think we'd all better learn where one can park and sleep because before its all over there will be quite a few families doing it.

How is it that so many have no problem living in this state in traditional housing units while a fringe group thinks it is Ok to live in their cars? Why would I want to have some one living on my street in a car?

How about a rest stop? Heck I guess that's kind of far tho.

Lots of judgemental types here.....just remember this, it can happen to any one of you. I've known my fair share of riches to rags.

City of Ventura recently ruled to not prosecute or fine people sleeping in cars. Times are tough, people have lost jobs, houses.... And it ain't over yet. "Tent cities" are popping up all over the place, and the "mobile homeless" population will grow and stay with us for a while. I don't know, maybe look-out-for-number-1 capitalism can fix it.
