Hey, everyone!

I was relocated to SM a little under two months ago and I've no clue as to what or where the good "areas" are for first dates. Any suggestions? :-)

Edit: Preferably somewhere not too crowded (or close to somewhere that is not too crowded). I considered some outdoor locations but it's been too freakin' cold lately. :-(

Thank you in advance.

Too cold is fun, great for cuddling. Even better if you have a fireplace. If not they have reasonable firepits for the patio or have a fire at the beach.
I would go to the 3rd street promenade and the boardwalk.
Universal studios is not far the city walk there is fun.
Just down Wilshire is some museums and plenty of art galleries everywhere.
Bike rides thru Malibu.
That was the best part of dating I thought, talking about common interests and exploring from there.

I wouldn't want some stranger groping me on a first date. Are you a guy or a girl? What's your budget? If you're loaded you can take her to Lobster on the pier.

I vote for 3rd Street Promenade. There's lots to do and the street performers are great.

I once had a wonderful date at Shutters on the Beach - we actually stayed in the lobby area and sipped wine and ate appetizers not too far from the fireplace, all while sitting on a comfy couch. An alternative would have been to go to the restaurant downstairs which is also very nice (on this particular date Noah Wiley walked by with his family - you never know when a celeb will walk by you here).

The Lobster is also very nice - their crabcakes are delicious! Service is excellent, and you are right by the beach.

If you like French cuisine, you can try JiRaffe - they have a very nice place that is perfect for a first date - close to the promenade so the two of you could take a stroll before and/or after the date.

Let us know what your budget is (the places I mentioned above are sort of pricey, but won't put you in the poorhouse) and I can make some other suggestions (like walk out to the end of the pier and have dinner at Marisol, affordable Mexican restaurant and you can have the band serenade your date to boot - that's another memorable date!).

Good luck and use protection .

What a great idea! The lobby has a fantastic feel. Great suggestion! Then maybe a little jaunt on the sidewalk by the beach if things are going well . . . or off to a club close by or maybe just call it a night and keep 'em wanting more.

You know you're officially from California when you start saying that this weather is cold, hehe. I'd go to the Promenade. There is some crazy stuff there that would be great conversation starters.
