My sister moved to Round Rock, a 'burb of Austin and loves it, she'll never move back. Hey sorcrer, some parts of downtown Austin are as liberal and gay as you are. lol Trust me, despite your bias there are other places as radical and leftist as the Peoples Republic of California. Thing is, in Austin, we traditionalists offer a fair and balanced voice to the radical "blame America 1st" crowd, unlike here in LA where tolerance for anything other than the moveon.org group is non existent.

As for Austin having no beaches, that's a misnomer. They have no ocean, big difference. They have tons of lakes, which in turn have beaches. Thing is our beaches are freezing cold, have waste and needles often lining the beaches and floating in the water. Our beaches are gross.

Austin is booming for a reason people. Yeah it's hotter than heck in the summer but so is Burbank where I live.

This would be a serious problem for me. I do enjoy visiting the lakes, but the lake has no waves to ride. The ocean is where I can bodyboard all summer long. Our beaches are freezing cold?! It's 65 degrees in the summer months, perfectly enjoyable for folks of all ages. Waste and needles?! I'm not sure which beach you are referring to, but the ocean doesn't produce many pine needles, because there are no pine trees in the ocean, and no islands of pine trees of needles off our coast. You will find more waste in lakes than the ocean. Why?! Less volume of water, much greater volume of pollutants within lakes. Not to mention the Jetski's and boats, which produce high levels of gasoline which can be tasted along the shoreline, yes in your mouth.

I think you're in need of a beach tan! hehe lol

Why I wouldn't head for Austin.
No beach
No mountains
Humid summers
Texas mentality(wannabe cowboys)

I visited in May 2010 and agreed...I couldn't handle the 96 degree heat (in May already)....No mtns, no beach, no easy escapes into nature..Cold rivers and lakes offer little respite from the heat despite claims to the contrary..There is very little to do unless one drives 600 miles west to Big Bend National Park..You are literally a jet plane ride away from anything of interest..Both the college and downtown were dead.......I almost got ran over twice on Cinco DeMayo and the drivers were as bad as LA...
