Me and my family will be moving to LA. I will be working in the conejo valley, but will have to commute to Tarzana once-twice per week, West Hills once per week, Burbank once per month. Most of my time will be spent in Thousand Oaks.
I am looking for a family oriented community, and don't have much time to spend in the area before moving there. So we will be renting initially and are looking for a 4 BR home for under 4500 per month.
I am looking in Calabasas, Agoura Hills, Westlake village and Thousand Oaks. I prefer the LV school district, but have heard some rumors that Calabasas may not be the most family friendly area, but don't know if this is true.
Any locals have any more insight?
Thanks,
Carlos

You can add Oak Park to that list of nice, family friendly, family amenity towns with very good schools.

Just don't send your kids to AE Wright middle school if they're gingers. I kid, I kid. Oak Park is nice, but you'll be in L.A. Co. I think. This means higher taxes, DWP bills, etc... (listen to John and Ken on KFI) Parts of Westlake are still in Ventura Co. I would recommend Ventura County.

Oak Park is in Ventura County.

All of Westlake Village is in Los Angeles County. The area around Westlake Lake that is in Ventura County is Thousand Oaks.

AE Wright is a Great Schools 10 out of 10.

I was joking about the "kick a ginger day" that happened there. I was under the impression that Oak Park was LA Co because of the 818 area code? It's so tiny! Good place to live though.
