Venice Beach....funny to read this article from 1960 describing Venice Beach as, "the west coast mecca for weirdos."

and just think in a few short years Venice would be overtaken by Haight up in SF as the new mecca for weirdos, but instead of beatniks we called them hippies! I wonder if there's any area today in California (or the US for that matter) that has that rep as a magnet for counterculture bohemians?

In all fairness to our northern neighbohr, North Beach in San Fran. was the west coast mecca for the Beats before the Haight become the hippie hot spot.

There are still a few places in N. Cal and S. OR.

Venice was paradise back then. Was in the 80s and 90s too. Went downhill around 2000.
