I would like to take Microsoft Office classes next month and am in the process of looking for a community college and some other place that offers those. I am not completely inexperienced, but not as experienced as I would like to be because, unfortunately, we have been using OpenOffice at my current job and that's not the same at all. And it's been almost 7 years since I graduated college... Due to my occupation, I absolutely HAVE to have great Microsoft Office skills. Hence, the classes.

I have googled some classes, but I was wondering if anyone can recommend any places, especially a community college, since it would probably be a lot cheaper than taking classes elsewhere. Thanks!

Thanks! I already have that link bookmarked though I was just trying to see how much actually classes would cost, cause I wouldn't mind to have a certificate. However, if they cost something crazy like $ 500 or something, I'd definitely try the ones you mentioned.

On top of community college, many of the adult education schools that various school districts have will provide classes on this. There is also something called ROP(Regional Occupational Program) (http://www.cde.ca.gov/ds/si/rp/southern.asp - broken link) that will generally offer courses for Office as welll

I can understand the desire for the certificate. For those that are not so inclined I have gained a lot of my knowledge from using the help section on Word, Excel, Power Point, Project to the point that I am proficient in their use. It is amazing how much help is available within the programs that Microsoft produces. Also plenty of good books on the subject that are available. For those that dont't need the certificate or want to improve their skills with their present employer I would learn how to use the help section.

Just another note. A friend from school did the same thing, learned his way around the MS Office programs by using the help section that his employer moved him into a new position at work trouble shooting staff complaints and helping out around the office building where he works.

Microsoft is partnering with states all over to provide free training AND CERTIFICATION.

If you're jobless you can get the free training and certification at any "one-stop" center. Here's the link:

Free Microsoft training and certification for California job seekers

*Charles already posted the Microsoft Office Training link...

Wow, that's perfect! Thanks a lot!

Edit: Looks like it's just for citizens though I am a resident, but not a citizen

I checked it out and registered to take it. Hey it is free. One of the things that I asked is if someone with a job can do it and they told me at this time they will take anyone untill they run out of packets. You do need to call one of the centers and set up an appointment. Not all locations still have packets. For example the Ventura Location was all out but the West Oxnard location had plenty of packets.
