Most guns in the ghetto are obviously purchased on the streets illegally. No one who has a registered gun and a permit to carry is going to shoot up the block because his bullets and or casings can be easily traced by the cops or the feds. Many guns that are purchased on the street have "bodies" on them already meaning that they have already been used in murders. This is the reason why many thugs in the ghetto only own larger firearms like AK's and assault rifles because the larger guns are significantly cheaper to purchase on the streets than a gun that can be easily concealed in your boxers. But gun culture in the American ghetto mirrors the gun culture in war-torn countries like Iraq with average civilians of all ages proudly touting huge guns that they are not afraid to use. Here is an interesting article chronicling the perpetual cycle of gun violence that continues to unfold daily in my old neighborhood of Lakeview in the rougher poorly publicized southern fringe of San Francisco, which can be very deceivingly nice looking and middle class:

Shhh....! The liberals collective heads will explode if one suggests that most firearms that are used in crimes are not bought in gun stores - but on the black market - or stolen. It just wouldn't do for people to be thinking that gun control laws only punish and hurt law abiding citizens rather than the criminal element they are sold as being tools with which to combat. The gun control nuts want people thinking that your average gun-toting ghetto hoodlum walks into a neighborhood gun store - pays with a credit card and walks out with a Saturday night special. It makes it easier for them to make it harder for the people who do so without criminal intent to access firearms - does absolutely nothing about gun violence - and makes the liberals feel good - so they cna walk around saying "I care" - while they actually have made the problem worse.

I have a friend who lives very near to there and grew up there. She lives on a street where all the neighbors are home-owners not renters and it's very quiet. It varies on a street-by-street basis I suppose.

Every neighborhood in Compton tends to be a bit different, just like with South Central. There are some very nice blocks, and even the worst looking parts don't LOOK too bad. And it's 2012, not 1992...so it's for sure not a bad as it was back then

The NRA and Darrel Issa are waging their own hysterical war on Attorney General Holder for what they think is a scheme by the administration to sell guns to Mexican drug cartels, causing shooting deaths and mayhem in Mexico, which the administration then can point to in an obvious effort to control guns in the USA and eliminate the Second Amendment.

No, really. They believe this. Without evidence.

That psycho gun nuts are white, paranoid, semiliterate, slack-jawed, shoot-anything-nonwhite-and-let-God-sort-'em-out NRA drones is well known. That they "don't care" is as well. The people they elect are a gas.

The majority of recent discussion here has nothing to do with Compton -- the Los Angeles forum is not the appropriate place to discuss guns/gun laws.
