This isn't really a question; I just wanted to express how grateful I am that there is one less degenerate thug off the street.

Santa Monica police officer shot during DUI stop - LA Daily News

I guess I do have a question - how long do you think it'll be before he gets back on the streets?

I'm not sure if this would be classified as attempted murder or not, but here's the minimum for attempted murder:
"every person who attempts to commit murder against any person listed in subdivision (a) inretaliation for or to prevent the performance of the victim'sofficial duties, shall be confined in the state prison for a term of15 years to life."
(Subdivision (a) basically lists judges, sheriffs, city council members, etc.)

With enhancements for the use of a weapon, knowingly shooting a peace officer during performance of his duties and whatever else they can throw at him, he's gonna be getting "thrilled" in prison for a long time. The parole board is heavy in former peace officers who do not exactly take kindly to these things, nor do correctional officers.
