Is Lafayette going to be the next boom town in the Southeast. Ihope they improve their downtown since they have no skyscrapers or condos there.

It could happen. It's hot, humid, flat, lots of mosquitos, lots of friendly peple, and lots of great food. Sounds just like Houston!

There is some mixed residential being built near downtown across from the old library.
Lafayette development have admitted that the city needs a liveable downtown and are working on it.

They should follow what New Orleans and Baton Rouge are doing to their downtowns.

Houston is underrated. Lafayette has the potential to be the second largest city in LA.

I don't know if Lafayette would even want to be filled with skyscrapers or anything. But it should make better use of its downtown and focus on revitalizing the old part because if it is to sustain growth it has to make sure that it doesn't just keep growing south and making traffic worse and worse. Urban planning is kind of a foreign thing in Lafayette still.

This will probably never happen.
I kind of hope it doesnt.
Plus it isnt even the third largest city.
It will continue growing but it will never pass Baton Rouge, Shreveport or Metairie.

I'd have to agree. Although I believe the metro area could surpass Shreveport. Currently the parishes around Lafayette Parish have a population over 500k. I'm sure the area will grow well for the next 30 years.
