I cant lie.....this Thread stemmed from all the negative stuff I been reading about Louisiana as a whole.....well and a lil bit of Monroe bashing.

So why dont you guys just tell everyone yourself whats the best thing about your town or city.

Monroe:
Uncongested Metro
Isolated Neighborhoods with efficient amenities (all separated by a river, bayou, or hwy so whatever you dont like you dont have to be around it)
Shopping
ULM
Good Country & Traditional Louisiana Eating
Beautiful Country Setting(check the landscapes of ULM, Centurylink, and Louisiana Delta, Communtiy College, & The Airport....all are within an cropfield, bayou, or pecan orchard)
Spacious City Environment for a small town
Good Nightlife(yes....good nightlife....if you want names and places tell me what you want)
Great Outdoors
Pecanland Mall
Continous fest and events in several facilities(Civic Center, CenturyLink, Ike Hamilton, ULM, and Downtown)

Now these are things I know are good and popular here. I am very social and get out alot....but I also enjoy the country atmosphere, the Monroe area give me both without losing the other. I chose here because big cities are crowded and certain areas of a big city are neglected in favor of another section of town. Monroe Metro is pretty balanced throughout and people mind their own because they have their own in their area of town. I cant be bunched all up and be amongst the hustle and bustle. Being in better cities have made me appreciate the softness and isolation Monroe provides without sacrificing all the amenities you usually can only find in bigger cities.

Festival International by far. also, a citywide affordable high speed fiber internet owned by the utility instead of crappy ISP's.
You wont find that almost anywhere else in the whole country.

Wasn't there some controversy in the beginning over LUS building this fiber network ?
Seems like I remember hearing about a lawsuit or something . Glad it worked out .

Yes. Lafayette had to fight tooth and nail against Cox to get this fiber network created.
similar battles are going on all across the country, with very few of them winning so far, and most ending in stalemates or legislation AGAINST a city owned network. Lafayette got in early and laid the groundwork before the anti-movement by the ISP's became too powerful. I know people even in large cities who pay the same as we do but get half the speed and bandwidth caps. ISP's are AWFUL in this country.

Folks, remember the topic of this thread is what you like about your city. NOT what you don't like about it or any other place.

not too big
