My son, daughter and baby grandson are looking to relocate to Lafayette. I lived there in 1980 and loved it, but ended up moving back to eastern washington (where I'm from) to raise my family. Now with the second generation back home, it's time to move back to a place I loved.
So, with my menagerie consisting of a very good chef(my son) jackie of all trades (my daughter) and my gorgeous grandbaby that I take care of, plus 2 scottish terriers..we are looking to rent a 3 bedroom preferably house. Outside of town is ok, small towns in the area is also ok. Is Lafayette a pet friendly place? Didn't have pets when I lived there, but thy're like family members and I'm unwilling to give them up.

Thanks for replying, I was beginning to feel unloved lol. Here in washington the places that allow pets are few and far between and those that do will usually either only allow cats, or you're limited to one small dog and a nonrefundable deposit that is almost equivalent to a months rent. I owned my own house AND lived outside the city limits so no issues for me, but now...
What areas are the best (and for that read places you can walk outside in the evening with the baby) and being able to leave your bedroom window open at night would be great too. You can't do that here both for safety reasons, and traffic noise.
How is the employment situation? My son is looking for a cook/chef position, he has about 8 years of restaurant experience from the ground up. McDonalds to a fairly high end place. He likes middle of the road places where he can experiment with food and menus and actually know the people who come in. My daughter is a bartender.
Cost of utilities? A/C is a must as I recall. thanks for the info.

The food scene is lively and the alcohol is a flowing in all of Louisiana.

I don't know much about the burbs of Lafayette but maybe Breaux Bridge, Scott, Duson, etc. I'm guessing places like Broussard and Youngsville would be too busy but then again I'm not sure.

Lafayette apartment complexes have different policies on pet ownership but some seem to allow sizeable animals. I cannot really say for sure which or how many. Thats something Youd have to look into.
As for leaving a window open, you probably can in most areas of the southside and the upper northside, but certain parts I definitely wouldnt recommend it.

Employment situation right now is very good. Companies are hiring all over, new businesses are setting up shop, and the general economic outlook is very positive.

If you are looking for a chef position, you came to the right place. Seems like new restaurants are opening or expanding on a daily basis. This is a very popular city and area for foodies, and not just Cajun food. There are quality establishments for many different cuisines. People love to eat here.
Utilities cost is probably about the average. higher in summer due to AC running constantly. and yes, you will need one. Winters are quite mild, and a small space heater and electric blanket and a light jacket can get you through 90% of it.
