I've started looking in Moss Bluff but the houses are really big and it doesn't seem like there are many amenities in the area.

What are your thoughts?
Graywood is a golf course HOA community, Moss Bluff is more of a tight nit neighborhood with older homes on larger lots. The area around Moss Bluff is very pretty with lots of trees and Sam Houston Jones State Park is real close, it is one of the top attractions in the area.

Graywood is more of a golf course lifestyle, it is closer to the good parts of Lake Charles including the shopping, McNeese State University, and being so far to the south, close to Big Lake and the swamps for hunting, crabbing, and fishing, if you like that stuff.

It depends on what you are looking for? Are you more into a rural lifestyle with a home on large lots or more into a very strict HOA community and soccer moms?

Personally I would go with the communities like Geddings Estates, which is a bit north of Graywood. It's a little more relaxed in respect to HOA ordinances. At Graywood, if you don't weed your garden, you will get cited.

You would also want to consider the community of Crestview, located South of Country Club, on Nelson Road. Low HOA fees and larger lots than Graywood, Geddings or The Oaks. Crestview is also on a natural bluff which keeps it above the 100+ year flood plain.

What school district is that zoned for? I know Shell Beach Drive is where a lot of wealthy people live, but they all send their kids to ICCS/St. Louis HS.

Check out Steamboat Bill's (Cajun food), go to Tony's Pizza (Italian), and Peking Garden on Broad St (absolutely the best Chinese food ever).

Drive the Creole Nature Trail and stop at the points along the way, you will learn a lot about the area. Visit Sam Houston Jones State Park, it is popular in the summer. Visit OB's (bar) if you want a good bar where everyone in the city is to be seen.

Bring the kids to Millenium Park, it's a lot of fun.

Be sure to get some mosquito spray when you go to the parks!

Why is that a drawback? The Petrochemical Industry supports the economy in Lake Charles.
