God I might have opened a big can of worms here, but I think maybe this needs addressing. Louisiana people don't make quite the money they could in other states, but I believe that the true Louisiana poor are the poor in spirit and atttitude. I see a cross-section of NLa people daily and too many are absolutely so cynical about everything its unreal. Nobody seems to think anything is going to improve, no ones seems willing to get together to make a difference, no grass roots campaigns for any elections, really this is the most apathetic place around. Every politician is crooked (sometimes I wonder, but I mus t think positive), and on and on.

Education has never been stressed in this state until recently. So many seem to believe that working is all they need to do, improving skill level or mind is unnessessary. No wonder so many young leave the state. If a person is really ambitious he winds up somewhere else. It's a shame to see all that talent and brainpower depart, but the poor spirited have charge of the state of Louisiana. My apologies for any offense committed.

I deeply love this state and care about it. However many really don't. People are always saying "well if you don't like it, leave" I say "if YOU really loved it, you would do something to help. Just by voting would be a start. Go to the town meetings, police jury meetings, city council meetings. Watch and listen. Add input. Get involved. Those politicians are elected by you and me. They work for us. I don't care whose money got them in there.

Default Do I walk the walk?

As much as I can. i do go to meetings, contribute time and some money when I can. If each one of us did just a little bit, a bunch of us could get a lot done!

I'll echo that, I'm relatively new to Louisiana and people are very cynical and always say I'll come back when/if it's better....well nothing will improve unless they get involved.

The Revolutionary War wasn't won by people who backed off the issues while waiting for someone else to do it.

Oh...and I love southern Louisiana...cynical or not...I really love it.

When I was a bit younger growing up in Louisiana northeast; People were seemingly humorous and friendly. Most anyways and very hospitable .

I'm from Atlanta. I came to live in New Orleans as I was pretty miserable in Atlanta with the 1-2 hr commutes, lack of any local culture or history and the inability to have neighbors who wanted to talk to each other.

Thus far, after a year I'm still in love with the place. Yes it has its flaws for sure but there is so much in this state in terms of culture and history, AND natural resources. If Louisiana could get itself together business wise, this state should be the next big thing but people are going to have to stop with the apathy and not feeling that they can do anything to change it. IMHO

how can you adjust the attitude of a state?
i am powerless over others. i can only work on my own
character defects.

Well you can't change a state's attitude, but you can suggest positive things that can make a difference. Some people will give thought to it and others; well shall we say would make no difference if they were struck by a bolt of lightning. Thats just human nature. Louisianians need encouragemnet, not condemnation for what they are or are not. But we could all improve in ways we don't even consider. It's not that hard; I can do it. So can anyone else. Maybe I was condemming in my original post. I have stood back and given some thought to what I said; maybe some of it was a bit harsh. But change can happen; not to everyone, but many more than not.
