You'll find plenty of apartments, grocery, and many life support shops (dry cleaners, drug stores, etc) just the southwest of the VA center. The area is called Lower Brownsboro Rd.

You can live up in the area from Kenilworth to Reidlion/Zorn Ave and be in walking distance.

University of Louisville/Spaulding/Jefferson Community/Sullivan/Bellermine are all local colleges accessible by bus.

Default Your apartment quest...

Dear "southerngirl" --

You should have good luck on your apartment quest in the immediate vicinity of VA Hospital. There are several condo communities along Zorn Avenue, such as Salem Square and Adams Hill, where condos often are available for rent. It's then an easy stroll down Zorn and up the hill to VA. As for colleges, Zorn Avenue is on a TARC (Transit Authority of River City) busline, and it's an easy-breezy bus commute to nearby downtown Louisville, where, for instance, Jefferson Community College (JCC), a two-year college, has its main campus. Affordable JCC has a state affiliation with the University of Louisville, and many credits can transfer to UofL as a four-year college. You should be able to find bus connections from the Zorn Avenue area to UofL as well -- it just might involve a transfer from one bus to another to complete the trek.

Back to apartments -- also look along Brownsboro Road, which crosses Zorn just about three blocks from VA hospital.

You might also check websites such as www.RentalHouses.com (which includes apartment listings) and courier-journal | The Courier-Journal for prospective apartments.

Best wishes to you in your move to Louisville, SouthernGirl -- we think you'll love it here!

Yours truly,
