There's so much to choose from it depends on what you like...a lot of people enjoy Ramsi's Cafe on the World...mostly because of the atmosphere...Ramsi's Cafe | Welcome.

If you like great pizza, calzones etc. and bar atmosphere then Wick's Pizza is a must...(actually on Baxter Ave which is a little far north) ...Wick's Pizza Parlor | Home of the Big Wick

There are also a few Irish pubs in that area as well as Phoenix Hill Tavern if it is music that you desire.

Try Ramsi's and walk around see what grabs your eye.

Don't forget there's also Crescent Hill/Clifton Heights area which offers some restaurants and shops as well.

Good Luck...Have fun!

Like Sweetpickle said, it depends on what you're looking for. I've walked the Highland's section of Bardstown Rd. in one day, but I had a whole day and walking shoes on!

Here is a great video that covers a lot of the shops on Bardstown. I'd have to say this video leans toward the upscale side of things, but it does include WHY Louisville, and Kizito Cookies, which I was going to mention. Shopping on Bardstown Road : GoToLouisville.com Official Travel Source

In addition to the shops covered in the video, here are some of my favorite places and some landmarks on Bardstown Road:

Ear X-tacy: A staple in the Highlands community, and Louisville in general for all your music needs- ear X-tacy

Book and Music Exchange- A kind of run down store, but it has lots of neat finds. It is right across the street from WHY Louisville. Book and Music Exchange: The place to go when you want to buy, sell or trade - Louisville, Kentucky

I second Ramsi's Cafe on the World! www.ramsiscafe.com

Electric Ladyland- I'll be blunt- it's a headshop (pun intended!) Nevertheless, it's a landmark in the Highlands... 2325 Bardstown Rd

One of my favorite coffee shops is Highland Coffee www.highlandcoffee.com

Another popular coffee shop is Heine Brothers, they have several locations in the Highlands area www.heinebroscoffee.com/

Home Skate Shop www.homeskateshop.com

Cafe Mimosa- has great sushi/asian food- it's in the old Lentini's Restaurant location, which was a landmark in the Highlands. It's a really neat location. www.cafemimosatogo.com/

Cherry Bomb- a vintage clothing store (one of many, but one of my favorites) 1602 Bardstown Rd.

Homemade Ice Cream and Pie Kitchen- YUM. They have two locations, 2525 and 1041 Bardstown Rd.

Wild and Wooly Video- a store for hard to find movies! Wild and Woolly Video | Wild and Woolly Video Rentals in Louisville, KY | Welcome to Our Store!

Good luck and have fun!

You need to visit cafe 360 on bardstown rd and get their fried chicken sandwich with seasoned fries. Ask for an extra side of the honey mustard to dip sandwich and fries into. Your gonna love this, trust me! Lived here all my life and by far the best I've had anywhere! A must try. Also go to the Cheddar box on shelbyville rd.heading out towards Middletown if you get a chance. Its a great taste and unique to Louisville. Let me know how you like it.
