hello everyone,

i am moving to Louisville for the first time in July. i got a job at the medical school down town. i am from Paris France. my contract is for 3 years. i was thinking it through and i realized am better of buying a flat/ house here. i am thinking of living in the house for the 3 years and then hopefully selling it afterwards. i heard so bad things about staying in downtown interm of safety. so i am thinking of something a little bit away from it. i will be driving so that might solve the problem ..

i need your advice guys. i am single in my late 20s ... no friends here . so am looking for somewhere live and safe and obviously somewhere i can invest in so i can sell back

really appreciate all the help guys

thank u

Celia

There are several questions we would need to know to recommend a better solution for you.

1. Price - Louisville is a huge city that has houses for $15K and five minutes away million dollar homes

2. If there is a great chance you moving and selling after 3 years you need to pick a neighborhood where homes sell more frequently to ensure your not living in France and stuck with a beautiful house in KY that won't sell. I don't really like the East end but most of the homes that sell are there.

3. How far are you willing to commute? In Toronto the city I moved from it took me and hour and a half just to get to work. When I moved to Louisville traffic is not that bad so no commute there really bothered me.

Good call on your part!! You can likely buy, live in the home for three years, and sell for a net equal to what you paid. Even if you take a small loss, it would be less than the cost of rental, especially when you consider the income tax benefits.

thanks for the message,

well to answer your questions ....
1- i think my price range is till 200k ... i will be moving alone so i dont know if buying a one bed apartment will do me good if i want to sell later.

2- as to where ...i heard great things about the Highlands, Frankfurt ave and Cherokee triangle, but again never been there to see myself..

3- i have to admit .. i dont want some where its really far from the UoL Medical school ...i think 20 to 30 minutes drive is reasonable. if some where is close to where the buzz is yet safe and decent then Bingo

an hour and a half it took you to commute ! wow ... i am from Lyon which is quite a big city ..though it used to take me only 10 minutes walking

You will have 100 or more very good choices that meet your criteria.

Je m'apprête à déménager aussi. Il y a une Alliance Française à Louisville.

Maybe we'll meet up at the Alliance Française's little soirees. Not sure how big the French population is.

You could go on Zillow.com; you'll be able to get a sense of the neighborhoods and offerings. Just don't assume any of what is on the site still available. I just like the functionality of the site.
