Hey guys it's been 2 weeks for me and my husband since we left NYC to come to louisville for his army job we were suppose to live in Fort Knox in first place but we end up getting an apartment in louisville . I can't complain it's very nice here but very quiet I barely see anyone outside in neighborhood I am so not used to it . What is great is that we have everything right where we live our apartment complex it's in nice area . I am working on getting my drivers license finally that I never needed living in Berlin/Germany and then manhattan /NY. I don't know here anybody yet we are both in our 20's my husband is 28 and I am 25 I would like to go know some people . I never thought that 2,5 months ago my husband will give me this news leaving my whole family friends all people I know to come here and start from zero it's hard not to know anyone or have someone to hang around with ... I don't like this feeling ... I miss NYC a lot ..:/ anyhow have a great day everyone
Regards
Joanna

Where do you live? Give it time. Join groups online. Go to New2Lou. Also find your interests on meet up.com. Then go to a group. Join a church. Go to coffee shops. There is no excuse not to like the city bc there is more than ample stuff to do. Sure, it is no Berlin or NYC, but still.

No excuses...get together you two then! Join a church, groups on meetup.com that meet your interests!

Go to New2Lou It is meant to network among new young professionals to the area and their monthly events are in cool spots where you can meet other transplants.

You might like the German American Club in Louisville. You are a bit younger than most of their members but there are some your age and it might help you meet others.

Your apartment building must be in a suburb. The Highlands area is pretty much hopping all the time and has public transportation. Kentucky cities and town are generally "hang with your family" places, but Louisville - with its many residents from other states and countries - seems to be an exception. Check out Meet-up groups geared to your interests; there's even a "New to Louisville" group. Get closer to the main drag, and you'll see some sign of life. Suburbs are for the birds! I don't suppose anything could compare to New York City for excitement, but it's a decent-sized city with a lot of interesting things to do. Good luck!

Great post otterhere. Please post more often. As we get more forumers from Louisville, we should probably organize an offline forum get together.

Hi, Joanna... welcome to the last city of the south if you're heading north, and the last city of the north if you're driving south!

One word - summertime. When the temperatures soar that high, people don't seem to spend much time outdoors unless they're on their way to or from their car. I second the recommendations to join some Meetup groups. I don't know if you're a writer, but I'm a member of some really decent little writer's groups, and there are some film groups, art groups, and other such get-togethers several times a week all over the area. If the mountain ain't knocking on Mohamed's door, toss Mohamed in the trunk of the car and drag him to the mountain. Once you start meeting people, it builds momentum, and you won't feel alone very long.

I won't lie - you're never going to feel as though you're in New York or Berlin. I know how you feel; I don't like it here myself. But sounds like we're both stuck here for a while whether we like it or not, and making friends makes it go down a lot more smoothly, and you'll learn so much about the area and what there is to do here.

Ohh man I love summertime in Kentucky, it's my favorite time of year! You know, if they get out more and meet folks, they just might have a different perspective on Louisville than you....then again, maybe not. If you end up leaving Louisville, I hope you find your place!
