Hello Folks-

I am new to the area and I am wondering what Louisville has to offer where small dogs are welcome. I have read about the dog parks, but I am wondering where else we can bring our pup.

Default On a bit less emphatic side..

The Louisville Metro Government in an attempt to rein in pit bull terriers, placed effectively a "dogs not wanted" sign under the city limits sign. Please don't take my word for it, simply note the Louisville Kennel Club show attendence.

WOW- LOL!! I would hate to think that they are really that ardently anti-pup. I have to say that I am disappointed in any city that seeks to legislate against a breed rather than an owner.

If I were a betting man, I'd bet that one of the writers on this thread doesn't have a dog.

I have a dog and I take him down to Waterfront park almost daily and he runs around wherever he wants. I have never had a problem. The city is not out to be dog nazis for heaven's sake. They just want to prevent stray, big and violent dogs from mauling children like they did in the west end sometimes n the past. I also take him to Cherokee Park when it is warm, and we play frisbee and he likes to explore and chase after other dogs, of which there are tons all over on dog hill and on the trails. So, how Louisville is not dog friendly I am quite unware. There are dogs everywhere. I am not sure what the law is is, but whatever it is, it is not enforced. There are techincal noise ordanances too, but unless you are a jerk trying to disturb your neighbors, nobody is going to enforce that.

There are a couple of dog runs in the city - Cherokee Park, Vettener Park, & EP Sawyer State Park. You have to pay a small yearly fee (~$15) to get a key to them.

Has anyone discussed the cost of an intact dog verses the license fee for dogs that have been sexually altered?
