Starting this thread to post news, information, and interesting articles about Louisville. I saw this article in Forbes about Louisville and thought a thread like this might be a better idea than just a solo thread for it. Feel free to post Louisville centric info in it.

This is a write up from a travel/food journalist at Forbes. It's talking about Louisville's progressive ascent over the last few years. As someone who visited regularly before I lived here I've always thought the city punches above its weight.

Quote:
Having been a frequent visitor to Louisville going back to the 1970s, I waited a long time for this city slumbering beside the Ohio River and within sight of Indiana to claim parity with progressive southern cities like Charleston, Savannah and Nashville by capitalizing on its history and heritage. Now, after an absence of five years, I have found Louisville has bounded into the 21st century with impressive vitality.

Lego convention being held downtown this weekend at the convention center. Displays and creators will be on hand, as well as a retail component.

Quote:
The Kentucky International Convention Center at 221 South 4th Street will be holding Louisville Brick Convention on Saturday, July 15 and Sunday, July 16.

A portion of the proceeds will go toward supporting Creations for Charity, which is an all-volunteer nonprofit organization that buys new LEGO sets for underprivileged children during the holidays.

According to a Brick Convention release, fans in attendance will be able to meet professional LEGO artists displaying their creations and LEGO celebrities like the LEGO Masters cast.

Law makers seeking public input on if the Louisville city/county merger is working. Apparently a law was passed last year allowing new cities to be formed in Jefferson County. Only having been here 3 years I'm not sure how strong people feel about such things. I'm assuming the further one gets away from the Watterson, the stronger they feel about this haha.

The iconic looking pavilion thing in Cherokee Park was demolished yesterday due to structural concerns. Kind of sad the city neglected it to that point.

JCTC Investing 90 million into it's downtown Louisville campus. I don't know a lot about this stretch of Broadway, but I know the Broadway corridor in general benefits from investment like this.

This isn't going to change anyone's life, but armadillos have been confirmed living near Lousiville in Bernheim Forest. They are relatively harmless feeding on insects and grubs and might actually be beneficial to some of the other wildlife. They will be monitored to see what if any effects they have on the local environment.

Armadillos are moving northward due to the rapidly warming winters in the Ohio Valley. We need much colder winters again, but that isn't likely to happen very often at all.
