My husband, our two boys (ages 2 and 3) and myself are looking to relocate for his work. The oldest of our boys was set to start preschool here in Indiana, but we will now be needing a new one. We currently live in a small town, very small, about 30 minutes north of Evansville. The biggest problem is I don't have a clue about anything in Louisville besides Kentucky Kingdom! We would like to rent an apartment, and we would like to enroll our children in a good school. I would like a school district where they can start in preschool and continue through high school with basically the same friends, if that's possible. I have tried to research the schools online, but there are so many that I'm not sure which to choose. I want a clean area to live in, close to many activities if possible, since I am a stay-at-home mother. He wants to try and live downtown, but I'm not picky. Overall, I am searching for a good school, clean area, with professional (but not snobby), friendly neighbors. Please help as I have no idea which zip codes or neighborhoods to start looking at! Thank you in advance for your time and any help!

I'll do my daily recommendation of the Lyndon area of NorthEast Jefferson Co because it offers older affordable neighborhoods with great school districts. Lyndon is basically located along LaGrange Road from I-264 to Hurstbourne Parkway.

Thank you very much for a direction in which to go. Do you have any opinions on the downtown area?

well I lived in Raleigh and find it to be boring and crowded. Having generic retail and housing does not a city make and Raleigh fits the bill to a T. Add in the crappy x-press way systems and I'm laughing at your ignorance. The only good thing about Raleigh is it's proximity to Chapel Hill! hahaha

There are some nice areas near Downtown, but the public schools wouldn't be very good, unless you can get them into a magnet program.

As for neighborhoods near Downtown the best/ safest would be Butchertown (east of I-65 and north of Market Street) and areas along Baxter Ave (Original Highlands, Irish Hill, etc)
