Hi, my family and I are considering a move from CT to Oldham County, but I'm having difficulty figuring out the differences in how property tax and income taxes are applied. I pay about 4.5% currently, and the information I get from Sperlings Best Places is that Prospect, Crestwood and Buckner have an income tax of around 8.2% (state, county, local). are there separate taxes for each of these three?

Also, my property tax rate (get ready for this..) is currently $19.47 per $1,000 of assessed value (fair market value calc'd every 5-10 yrs). Buckner and Crestwood both have tax rates of $8.56 per $1,000, and Prospect has a rate of $9.29 per $1,000, per Sperlings.. First question I have is why the difference between Prospect and the others, and the next question is what is the tax rate applied to? Sale price? Assessed value? Something else?

Just thought of another question regarding sales tax. Is the sales tax of 6% applied to ALL goods and services, or just some things?

Thanks for all the help, we appreciate it!!!

In Kentucky, property taxes are hard to determine without a call to the Property Valuation Administrator's office regarding the particular property of interest. You can use: http://revenue.ky.gov/NR/rdonlyres/B...ISED92309.pdfn PM me if you have a specific property that I can assist you with.
