Have you checked out the crime stats on city-data? Most years Burlington has significantly more crime than Madison. Before you spout your uneducated guess do just a bit of research.

Reported crime stats are notoriously unreliable.

Thats true, I've known many like that myself.

However, some of the wisest seniors I've known have disliked the what one called the "kiddy" atmosphere of Madison, it seems to be a very individual thing.

Ok. So we will just take your word for it. BigCur's crime opinions are more accurate than actual crime stats. Get a clue.

A lot of silliness on this thread

Both Burlington and Madison are very safe, emphasis on "VERY"; I've lived in both places, and some of these posts are simply ridiculous..

Any informed persons are, reporting standards vary by hundreds of percents

If you haven't lived in Madison in last few years you would not know.

Madison has changed a lot over the years. It is still "relatively" safe, i.e. in comparison to bigger or more urban settings. But to say that Madison is safe--period, end of story--is to say the least either niave or wishful thinking. I live in the Downtown area. When I finally read the crime maps for this area was I ever shocked. Now I know in part why people in this area keep to themselves so much and behave in ways that could only be described as fearful, suspicious, or self-protective. Sad state of affairs. Stay awake and stay aware, people. The first rule of safety. But try not to assume that everyone is out to mug you or steal from you.
