I am considering a relocation to the Madison area and I would hope to find a water front home in Madison or a nearby area for less than $500k.

Open to condos? For walking distance to restaurants and bars, and real waterfront, that budget will be a challenge. There are places on the waterfront along Monona for that, but walkability to bars/restaurants? I dunno.

Maybe the area along the Yahara River in Monona...or Mud Lake fronting the beltline. I don't think you will find anything in your price range with prime lake front coverage...only lake access or one of the less desireable areas (for one reason or another).

Thank you all for the replies.. Sorry for the delay on my end. I thought I had subscribed to my own thread, but apparently not
. I completely understand that my wish list was pretty big for my budget.. So if something had to give, I would be ok with not being in a walkable area.
Having the water frontage in a single family home would be my main objective.. From there I would want to consider areas that are as close as I can get to downtown Madison.. Again, I am open to areas within 15 miles. I'm also not needing nothing fancy in a home. I could get by with something as small as 700sf or even a year round cabin/cottage..
Anyway, I will explore the couple of areas mentioned.. If anyone else could chime in with any other ideas of areas I could explore with my criteria in mind it would be greatly appreciated. I'm trying to do research on my own too.. Just hoping to get some advise from people that have explored many of the lakes in the area.. Thanks again!

. I completely understand that my wish list was pretty big for my budget.. So if something had to give, I would be ok with not being in a walkable area.
