From my research, I surmise that American Bittersweet WILL grow in Maine, specifically in the Bangor area and that European Mistletoe likely will not.

Can anyone confirm or deny my conclusions?

According to this information:

Viscum album

it is only rated to Zone 7, which is substantially south of ME.

Considering ME's stance on invasive species and EM's classification as a weed and semi-parasitic and on at least one quarantine/eradication list (California), you might want to find out whether ME would get on your case if you imported it and attempted to grow it.

Methinks it would not grow ... but if I were to attempt it, they would have to catch me to get on my case, and I have not survived this long by getting caught <g>.

Seriously, I know a local (to me) NC downeaster who harvest and sells the real McCoy each fall... I'll just make arrangements for her to ship me some sprigs for my holiday and ritual use; they do not make it into the wild, as they are used inside and after their time is up, ritually burned.

After seeing what the importation of kudzu has done in many places in the south (and I am seriously afraid of that evil plant... it reminds me of some bad B-level sci-fi story, and I steadfastly refuse to walk among -- or Gods forbid ON it -- not even to get what would have been a smashing photo!) I am very concerned about the moving of plants and animals into new environments, where their natural predators and control mechanims may not apply!

Kudzu- Is that the vine I see covering everything as I drive down I-81 on my way to Charlotte?

That would be the one. It eats anything in its path, so as long as you stay on the highway and keep moving you are safe... I think... in the daytime at least... maybe... <g>

"The Vine That Ate The South" coming soon to a theater near you...

You can also check with the University of Maine Cooperative Extension- Penobscot County Office (Horticulture Educator- Gleason Gray) for more information about plants that might (or not) grow in Maine, as well as the current list of invasive plants.
