Ohhhh grass is growing and wonderfully green! Buds on the trees with new little leaves growing- Glorious fishing weather too!
Need to plant some fence screen forsythia, cut the grass, and wait for the time to plant the tomatoes
...and the sounds of "cheep, cheep, cheep!" from the 300+ baby birds I'm brooding right now!
Be careful you don't squish them! They can be ear-splitting loud. Good thing they're cute. I have duck eggs under Silkie chickens so I don't have to raise them but can keep the ducks laying.
I pulled radishes this morning. We've been eating beet greens and Swiss chard for a couple of weeks. The peas, spinach and lettuce in the garden doing well. Comfrey and rhubarb look good and we had the first asparagus last weekend. Life is good.

Now why would we want to squish them? Pate of baby chick?? Actually, there are 224 chickens of various breeds, 60 turkey poults, and 30 goslings. They are divided up into small brooders in a 3-car garage, and they fill it right up! Wall-to-wall cheeps!
The silkies are lovely and maybe someday...
We did not go with ducks for first round this year. There were quite messy last year, and we figure we'll brood some later in the spring, when these are out on pasture. We have some pullets (9) from last year's batch that have been laying since late last fall, and are really producing right now. Nobody seems broody as of yet!
Light, patchy frost this morning in Union. This year I'll be cover cropping. That's it. Buckwheat, followed by what was called Winter Rye and is now called Fall Rye.
So was anybodies gardens adversely effected by frost warnings in late may?
On 13 May 2015, frost killed all the leaves on my new grapes. I had just bought them. So far it looks like most have recovered. Out of 12 I may have lost 3. I was very frustrated that all their leaves had died.
Generally, I do not plant before 1 June.
I have been focusing most of our gardening toward perennials anyway.
Our garlic chives were the first color in our garden this spring with lots of violet flowers, before anything else had even sprouted.
My oregano has bounced back strong this year. I have already been harvesting it, and today it needs to be cut again. My oregano is 2 foot tall.
my lupines are trying to hang on,,,but withering...
