Everybody thinks he is a carpenter, electrician, plumber, or mechanic. In my town there seems to be a very high percentage of the population that will do each of those jobs.

Lets see among my neighbors there are: college professors, a legal assistant, a stenographer, sales clerks, a school janitor, one self-employed welder, state/federal employees, and a few fast food folks. These are all full-time workers.

Quite a few of Maines yacht builders are hiring. Those are good full time jobs that have good wages and include carpenters, electricians, plumbers, welders, and painters.

This website is a good place for you to start educating yourself about jobs and working/employment in Maine.

Maine.gov: Employment

I've known people who have worked seasonally for years (more than 15) full-time in the summer (April through October) then live on (maybe I should say survive on) unemployment benefits November through March. Sometimes they have picked up other full-time work during November and December (the Christmas season) which would decrease the amount of time spent receiving unemployment benefits. This could include retail or wreath making, etc.

Why are so many foreigners brought in to this state to work in the summer? I ask to see what answers I will get and most say it's because not enough people who live in Maine want to work in the seasonal jobs. There was a time when locals tented out on the blueberry barrens and raked blueberries.... now it seems to be up to migrant workers and machines. Working in the blueberry factory is still a seasonal possibility.

I know several people who are currently working two jobs..... one example: waitressing or bar tending evenings is popular in Hancock County especially in the summer (or more specifically April through October) accompanied by another job during the daytime (may or may not be full-time).

Snowplowing/snow removal is also a seasonal job.

Berry picking can be good money.

If you don't have any other employment over the winter fir-tipping might work out for you. There is a family that tips fir trees on our land every fall for wreaths. They load a U-haul truck with wreaths and take them to NJ somewhere, where they have a buyer that preorders so many wreaths.

Many people work the summer season doing recreation or tourist related jobs such as seasonal retail, lodging or restaurant, outdoor sport guiding (rafting, canoeing, kayaking etc.), and campgrounds. Even some state jobs are seasonal such as ranger and lifeguards for state parks. Additionally, LL Bean hires quite a good number of workers for the summer season. Many of those work the summer season at LL Bean are laid off at the end of the season then are rehired by Bean for the Christmas season. During the winter there are things such as plowing, working at ski areas, call centers for winter seasons such as Johnny's Seeds and AAA. Just to name a few.

Here's an unemployment/employment story for you. The article states that 50 workers retired... I guess that means signed up for social security benefits.

Many former mill workers find jobs; 80 still looking - The Ellsworth American
