Hello,
Does anybody know if most lakes in Maine are fine for swimming? I'm not talking temperature wise here, but pollution?
For example, the lakes north of Machias?
Thanks

I’ve never seen so much srystal clear water as I have since moving to Maine. And I mean ALL of it. Ocean, lake, pond, river, stream, all of it. I wouldn’t hesitate to sim anywhere in Maine.

Actually swam in at Roque Bluffs beach this year. There were a bunch of kids in the water so I figured what the heck. The NOAA regularly warns of swimming in ocean water even in the hottest of summer days due to hypothermia. Let's just say I was in and out rather quickly.

Those warnings crack me up. I figure they must be for those from away. I've been swimming in Maine in the ocean all my life. I limit it to June, July, and August. I prefer Maine ocean water to the pee warm ocean water of some other states.
