Nevada is first at 14.2%

Maine comes in at 13.6%... second highest in the nation!!

Considering people go to Nevada to GET divorced on a regular basis, does this mean Mainers are actually number one?

Must be all of that Allen's Coffee Brandy leading to domestic violence!!

The rest of Northern New England fared better:

N.H.- 11.3%
Massachusetts-9.1%
Vermont- 12.6 %

All is not blissful in Maine it seems!

Personally, I don't trust statistics. Too many variables and , depending on the source, its' very easy to manipulate numbers to make them say what you want them to say. Did the researches for these stats take into account the relatively low population of the state?

It was an average percentage based on the number of marriage certificates issued. Maine has a problem that may not be showing up in the stats. There was a flood or fire which wiped out a significant number of years worth of records from the archives. Given that these records are missing making it impossible to use their numbers in any statistical analysis I'd say it is quite possible the numbers are skewed.
That said, Vermont isn't missing any records and they have a divorce rate nearly as high as Maine's.

This may seem ridiculous, but the reason I " poo-pood" the stats is, I may relocate to Maine and I don't want to get divorced! Just being honest.
HaHa!

I'll take my chances. I don't put much faith in those stats anyway that they put out.

Maybe the divorce rate has a relationship with the tax rate. We have been the highest taxed state in the nation per capita income for years. We just slipped to #2 behind California.
