I don't post a wretched mess alert very often. We are going to have one Monday. We could get up to 2 inches of rain. We have a good snowmobile season started and this weekend will be gorgeous with clear skies and moderate temps. It could be the very best of the season to be outdoors.
Then it's over. The storm Monday will start as snow, turn to sleet, freezing rain, then all rain. It will be a lot of rain. It will indeed be a wretched mess.
MILK BREAD AND EGGS! French toast with blueberry jam during the storm. It's a Maine tradition.
We had a situation like that years ago. Unfortunately I took no photos. We had this huge deluge in mid winter, and the creeks over flowed their banks, and then at the height of the overflow, this cold front from the arctic came down with a vengence and the temps dropped to the single digits and teens for about a week. Everything froze solid. The overflowed creeks off their banks never got a chance to recede.
And then.... about two weeks later we had a thaw and another deluge. The ice around the creeks broke apart. Some of it was 18 inches thick. And it flowed down steam in a new over the bank flood at brown water rafting speeds. These pieces of ice looked like arctic flows and some of them were 4 feet by 8 foot by 18 inches thick being driven down stream by the new flood. They took out trees, forests, cars and wooden bridges, as well as serious damaging many homes near the creeks.
The pictures were bizarre but for those who lived around the creeks it was a nightmare that thankgoodness has not repeated.
Thanks NMLM, I saw the forecast for Monday, went into town today for some things. Came home and got the ice off of the screen house roof. I still need to get a roof rake for a few spots, just haven't gotten "a round tuit" yet.

Down here in North Carolina when they are calling for snow or freezing rain, everyone runs to the store to buy milk, eggs and toilet paper (at least 24 rolls!!!)......I thought it was hysterical and asked if they all got the runs when the weather turned bad....must be why they call me the damned yankee! Ha ha!

I bought a 24 pack today, and 16 rolls of paper towels. They had a sale at the pharmacy and as we live a bit of a ways from town I try to stay stocked up on those things. It may turn out to be just some bad weather that day but, I try to be prepared (at all times) for power outages and such.

Sure....I do the same thing...shop at Costco all the time. But when a storm is predicted...EVERYONE coming out of Walmart has tons of toilet paper....I have lived all over the country and have never experienced anything like it!
