Meh! You'll laugh, but back in the late 1930s (when he was a kid) my father kept them as pets. Yes, he was indeed nuts.

Most were desacked of course, nevertheless, my uncle tells the story of one time when he brought a baby skunk into my grandmother's bedroom, and she nearly fainted at the sight of it. She yelled "Get that thing outta here!" He replied, "Awww he's just a baby, he can't stink yet."

3 guesses as to how long they had to air out the house.

It's a wonder he was ever allowed to reside anywhere other than a tent in the yard after that.

We just harvested our first veggies of the year from our garden!

Radishes.

Last year the first thing we got was strawberries, but today it was radishes.

for the radishes, FBK! They're always my first harvest. Nothing like a peppery, crunchy little radish gem fresh from the garden!

I did not plant radishes with my first planting of carrots this year (forgot to get seeds...) but have had a few volunteers coming up. but we have TONS of lettuce and have been eating salad for weeks and sending it to market for a couple of weeks at least.

I cheated... they are transplants I grew...

I have been messing with sourdough again this past few weeks. Today I finally got a loaf that rose properly. The yeast needs this consistant warmer temps.

Mmmm good bread

I cut my first-ever garlic scapes yesterday! I'm going to make pesto. The first tomato will be ripe in less than a week, the earliest ever for me. I let radishes go to seed last year and have realized I can plant them as the ground is freezing and they'll take care of themselves til it's time to pull them in the spring. I need to pull the cold weather plants because two days in the 90's made the bolt.

It is my intention to plant a great many things that can overwinter that I can harvest first thing next spring.

We're heading for Eastport next Saturday morning. Can't wait for cooler weather - here, it was 90 yesterday with humidity at 87%. Too much for us - see ya'll in about a week. We'll stay until the end of September.
