Hi,
My husband and I would like to move to Maine with our sons (8 and 10 years old) and would like to know how difficult it is to get into Unum being from out of state. He currently works for a large Midwest Insurance Company as a Business Intelligence/Data Warehouse Architect.

I don't know what the job opportunities are now but UNUM was bought several years ago by Provident Life & Accident and it's now called UnumProvident. A lot of jobs were lost at UNUM when that happened and the complex of buildings was consolidated into just 3 and they've since rented the rest of them out. They sell the same kind of products, like Life, Group Life, Disability, both short and long term, several other products but they don't sell Medical insurance. Be sure you refer to it as UnumProvident when your husband checks with them about a job.

I'm a retired group insurance agent, that's how I know this stuff. Unum was one of my favorite companys to sell their products to groups.

I know Unum always has open positions, but I'm not sure how easy it is to get on there. I'm sure that with the economy in its current state, competition is stiff.

But he shouldn't restrict himself to just Unum. Check out some other places. Maybe Alexander & Schmidt in Freeport? I'm sure there's others too.

Thanks for the input. We are just researching some solid companies for my husband to look into, so we are definately open to other companies as well. We don't want to move the family without having some background and solidity of the companies in question. If you have any good suggestions of "employee" friendly companies to work for, we would appreciate it. Our dream is to move out east, so we hope we can make it happen sooner rather then later since our boys are getting older and we don't want to uproot them once they start making good friendships and such.
