The first trees are starting to unfurl their leaves, the cherries are flowering, and the redbuds should be in full bloom by this weekend or next. It is my favorite time of year. It is a shame it doesn't last long.

It stays much cooler though for longer- which is a nice change for this "downstater" in late spring

Cumberland is in a valley and the daytime highs are pretty similar to Hagerstown, Frederick, and Westminster. The difference is at night, when the temps, even in the dog days of summer dip down lower. We may get 2-3 70 degree nights during our worst summers.

Once you get to Frostburg and points west, that is where the difference is really noticeable. I would say Frostburg is 5-10 degrees cooler than Cumberland about 95% of the time with a constant breeze off of Savage Mountain, and more precipitation.

Me too! I'm thinking of heading to Cumberland this week-end!

Default Best Maryland towns

These responses are very interesting! I work as a park ranger in New Mexico now but was lucky enough to live in Maryland for several years. These are the four places we liked best to visit:

Cockeysville
Baltimore
Chestertown (and other Eastern Shore towns)
Chincoteague

And these are the places we either lived or thought we might like to live:

Bethesda
Olney
University Park (PG county...yes it's true. The dreaded PG county)
Thurmont (good parks!)

All in all, a wonderful state with diverse people. Admittedly, the traffic was getting pretty bad, including trips over the Chesapeake Bay Bridge to visit the Eastern Shore. Whew.

Chincoteague is in Virginia actually.

My favorites to live in:
Cambridge
Hereford/Parkton
Hampstead, Carroll County
Westminster
Bel Air

Least Favorite:
1. Baltimore City (all parts/neighborhoods of it)
2. all of PG County
3. Potomac
4. Bethesda
5. Wheaton

Most people there have never even been to a Walmart before (there is only one, in Germantown, it is not a Supercenter and there was heavy opposition to its construction). The people I went to high school with and the people I met in college from MoCo know more about Paris and Rome than about the Eastern Shore of Maryland or other parts of America. Most of them also still support Obama and O'Malley.
I did too but I was more in the ghetto. I could probably guess within 3 guesses where you went though lol. Those rich prep schools are worlds away from a lot of schools in Montgomery County, like the miore ghetto or rural ones. I used to wish I went to one of those rich white high schools but when I look back its probably like a stereotypical teen movie with a rich white high school which probably isnt the best thing.
