Just came across Mt. Airy on the map between Baltimore and Frederick. Looks quite inconvenient for DC itself though?

Looks like a small little town. Much going on there? Turning into a suburb soon, or retains it's small image? People from Baltimore moving that way, or not really? Is it just off the radar for DC, or are DC suburbanites moving up that way now?

Mt. Airy has a small historic town center, but when most people say "Mt. Airy" they mean a rather large exurban area that includes parts of Frederick, Carroll, and Howard Counties.

I would call the area "exurban." It has housing developments, new and old, plus some forests, a few farms and some open space. It is pretty typical of the communities on the I-70 corridor from Frederick to Baltimore. Growing, but not in any centralized way.

I used to commute from Mt Airy to Ft. Meade daily. It was about a 55 minute drive in trafic on the way home. Maybe 45 minutes in the morning never really all that bad.

It's a small town, with some nice people. Not diverse at all (which is overrated IMO) but has some pretty good schools. Seems most everyone there is an established resident. There not to welcoming of outsiders, but that seems typical of Maryland.

I would look elsewhere if you are looking for an out of the way place to live.

Let's add in Michael Beasley currently with the T-Wolves, and ex-Terp and current overseas standout baller Terence Morris, both of whom were born in Frederick.

Add to that list Ty Lawson, Kevin Durant, and Rudy Gay, all of whom were born (or in Durant's case played HS ball) in Maryland. That would be quite an NBA team......at least on the offense end.

I grew up in Mt Airy and it is a nice area if you like a little land and less hussle and bussle of life. The drive to Baltimore is easy, just drive down route 70. The drive to DC is a little harder but it could be doable.
