Hi yall, I stumbled across this thread when I was searching for something Chat St-related. I was in OCMD from June-November ‘93, spent most of the summer living on Washington Ln. near 10th and Boardwalk. Just wanted to mention that, in 1993, Chat St was still on the boardwalk near 9th St (my roommate worked there that summer doing hair wraps or something for them on the boardwalk. Black dude with dreads, most called him PJ). I think they moved down toward Division St the next year.

On the corner of 10th and Boardwalk that year there was some kind of chicken wings spot, they sold “suicide” wings and stuck your pic on the wall if you managed to eat some number of them. I think it burned down over that winter or something. It may have also been a bar, I’m unsure because I was only 16(!!) that year and obviously only went in there for the wings. There was also a popular club maybe 50ish blocks north of there that summer, I remember everyone had their promo t-shirts because they were expected to close that year (to possibly make way for a prison?). I think it was called Scandals, I put on a fake accent and snuck in with some British seasonal workers by acting like I forgot to bring my passport. Good times

I worked at Trimpers for a bit that summer (usually running boardwalk games), one of the Trimper family kids used to occasionally watch us on their CCTV and then whisper random ish on the intercom in the game booths. He was maybe 12 then, I imagine he probably owns the spot or something by now.

Good memories.. moving in to the later 90s & 2000s it seemed like every couple years there would be a different nationality of carnies working the games & rides on the boardwalk/pier. Must have something to do with the dissemination of work visas. In the late 90s a lot of Irish kids were seasonal workers. And when I went back about a decade later, it was almost all Russians. Not sure what has happened to all the American college students who used to come in from Pennsylvania & MD, etc..

You mean when Ocean city was actually a safe place to go, before the ghetto culture?

Still is! It's a great place for families, as it has always been.

I'd love to be in OC right now cooling off in the ocean, I'll take my chances.

Glad you still think so. I wouldn't go near it. Family safe? triple stabbing, shooting etc. Yeah real safe for kids.

Nonsense. Those are isolated incidents, you will find crime in every populated area. Heck we've had murders in Mount Airy and it's incredibly safe here. OC remains very safe and family friendly.

LMAO Isolated incidents? These isolated incidents are happening every year by the usual suspects. You are in denial. Murder in Mt Airy is unusual. But, can and it does occasionally happen everywhere. OC is a resort town. Population is not the same in summer months as winter. Summer attracts more than just families. It attracts the wrong element that we see destroying society, but we can't say what we see as a reality.
