Anyone transferred from VA Schools that used SOL to MD Schools using the Common Core? During the middle school or High School years recently? What has been your experience? Challenges? Successes?

While there might be a few differences both states school systems are top notch so eitherway youll get a great education for your kids. While I am far from a common core supporter my wife is a teacher and says the difference isnt as great as big as some think. Good luck.

SOL and Common Core aren't really related. The comparison in MD for the SOLs would be the High School Assessments (HSA) in Algebra I, English 10, Biology and Local, State and National Government.

I can only speak to the Biology and LSN tests (keeping in mind that I've never seen a VA SOL for comparison) and that is that both have an incredible amount of trivia on them which is tested.

As in VA, not every school system in MD is "top notch".
