I have recently got an offer for a position at Patuxent River. My wife and I really have no idea about the area. We are looking to rent first, then purchase a home shortly after. Where are some places to look at? We like the water and are not really into the nightlife scene. We like to go out occasionally and have a nice dinner and some drinks at an outside bar/sitting area. I don't really want more than a 45 minute commute to Patuxent. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Lexington Park and Leonardtown are the closest locations. Try this site for an idea of what is available in the rental market:

Pax River is in a very remote area. It's really nice down there but keep this in mind. There are certainly placed to eat in both Lexiington Park and Leonardtown but it is still a bit limiting.

The following site is specifically about St. Mary's County and the NAS PAX community, and will give you tons of information. Click here Southern Maryland Online™ - Your on-line community for Calvert, Charles, and St. Mary's Counties.™

Along the Left margin, click on the sections dealing with Relocation, and Real Estate, as well as community resources, and events.

Many people who work in the Pax are live in southern Calvert county.

You might want to check it out.
