That pretty much sums it up.

I didn't say Western MD was southern. Western MD is definitely Appalachian. I said that Western MD, Southern MD, and the eastern shore aren't characteristically northern. If you add in PG county (which doesn't have an equivalent anywhere in the NE), that's a huge portion of the state that isn't very similar to the NE. As I mentioned in my other post, MD as a whole isn't heavily Southern, but that doesn't automatically make it north eastern.

The argument used for MD being in the NE is that it's democratic, wealthy, and that it has lots of Catholics and a large Jewish population. The west coast states are all heavily democratic, but that doesn't make them NE. MD's Catholic % is noticeably lower than the rest of the NE. Maryland does have a large Jewish population and is wealthy, but does that really make it NE? Florida has larger Jewish population than MD, and nobody is claiming it's in the NE.

I am NOT trying to start another North-South argument thread, we have enough of those. This thread is only for posting proof of the state's "northern-ness." Contrasting MD with the deep south is not enough, AL and GA are far away, of course they are different.
"this has been bothering me lately"

Who gives a s..t?

How many silly forums do we need for this subject?

People are free to decide whatever they want for whatever reason.

People have different opinions. get used to it.

Live is too short to bother with such trivial things.

Yes, but then City-Data would have far fewer users if people DIDN'T bother with trivia.

Most of VA isn't even really Southern unless you in the country, basically same as MD. But I think Mid Atlantic fits best, mix of both. but more Northern than Southern any day.
Incorrect most of Virginia is very southern. Once you get south of Lorton and west of Centreville it might as well be Georgia.

Ironically, I've never came across anyone in this state who refers to people to the north of us as "Yankees".

*That is funny!!! This says a lot about the mindset of folks in this area during that particular time in history which has been passed down throughout the ages.
