We have got off easy folks. I have not minded this winter at all. The roughest days were in were in mid January when we had our only measurable snow.
Have we had ten days with high's below 40 in the Balto/DC metros?
Been over a hundred years without snow in February for the metro.
And still not the least snowiest season which is surprising. I remember 86' had very little snow.

Channel 4 rented/bought a snow making machine and had it making snow in front of their offices this morning.

Then going for a walk with the dog in the woods after it stopped, perfectly silent and absolutely beautiful. It's one of my favorite things to do.

Although it can be neat, without a car it makes it a pita to get around. 4 Inches is okay, but it still keeps me off the bike for a few days.
When we had the biggest single snow storm on record January 29th 2016 it kept me off the bike for two weeks.
With a lot of snow as it melts, and refreezes at night it makes it treacherous.
I broke my wrist on an icy sidewalk walking home from school back when they did not salt of everything decades ago.
So yeah, some snow.....but a lot....

That's DC. We had almost 72 inches of snow in 2009-10. I shoveled it, measured it, and remember it well.

DC might as well be 200 miles south, instead of 60 from where I am. Their weather is always milder. Oddly some of those storms they had in the mid 90's, and early 00's they got the brunt of the snow. We didn't get anything.

Hell when I worked at the old Hunt Valley Mall it could easily be raining on the south side of the mall, and snowing on the north.

Don't get me started on the ice storms of 93. That was the most hellish winter I have ever encountered. Ice storm, ice storm, ice storm, ice storm.............

I remember that goof Tom Tasselmyer 20 years ago rambling into the wee hours of the morning talking about how much snow we could get. He was certain of it, and many other forecasters were as well. Got up December 30th, it was cold as hell. crystal clear, and not a drop of snow on the ground. Philly got almost 10 inches.

And on the flip side northern Anne Arundel County gets nailed with strong storms more often in the summer. Almost always more than anywhere in the metro.!

I was out today, and mid day was a very typical winter day, and I can't believe people ***** about this weather but love to wallow in that god awful heat in July, August, or September!

At least it's suppose to be in the 60's tomorrow.

This winter reminds me of 1997-1998, except that season the only snowfall was a dusting in early December. Februy ary was pretty warm, and I recall the Cherry Blossms happening earlier than normal.

I remember that winter, and with the exception of December, which was cold, it was much milder than this winter. And wet. The rains were not all day events. It would rain for a few hours, and the sun would come out.
I just looked and after the second week in January the rest of the month was typical winter. But yeah February was mild.
For fun go back and look at the last week in February 2017. It was a beautiful week. Then it stayed warm into early March, got cold again, then warm.
People whine about winter around here, and they need to move to the tropics. Winters here are not that bad.
If people moved their a*s they wouldn't get cold!

In addition to historical perspectives, from a geographical perspective, this winter reminds me more of those you expect in the Carolinas, where only the far western mountains get a bit of snow, even if modest, and the coldest weather being hardy enough for needle palms. The pansies never fully went dormant, and the early spring flowers are now in full bloom in central/eastern MD. And as mild as its been here, its been even more exceptional in Europe and Russia, where Moscow has recorded its first winter with overall average temps above freezing. We're about a year away from the new 30-year climatic averages, and 2011-2020 was a full degree warmer than 1981-1990 for January and half of a degree warmer than 1981-1990 for Feb. at BWI, so that will translate to a slight upward adjustment in average highs, which doesn't factor in the colder 1960s-70s decades.
