Calvert County is pretty nice, safe, good schools and ethnically diverse.

Not cheap though, which is a good thing in my opinion.

Howard County. Columbia in particular. Good schools, open-minded diverse population (the community was created with the purpose of being an integrated community in regards to race, religion and economics), low crime and the cost of living isn't horrific, which is the best you can say for the DC/Baltimore region.

I lived in Maryland for most of my life, and found that most areas were very diverse and welcoming. I'm wondering what area you found to be racist!

I miss it... got a house up for grabs if you know anyone who's interested. Won't post the URL publicly though. Send a private message.

I've lived in MD for 8 years and never had one problem. Not one argument or fight.

Montgomery county has the greatest ethnic diversity and has one of the highest per capita income in the country (highest in the state).

Racism is more prevalent in Virginia than in Maryland. The population of Maryland in general seems to be more liberal and open-minded. Most racism I have personally experienced is directed from African-Americans to Caucasians in P.G. County.

I agree jhrrussell2, most racism that takes place in Maryland is from the African-American community towards the caucasian. I live in Severna Park, MD too by the way. The best place to live in Anne Arundel County. If you are an African-American, you can pretty much live anywhere and not be judged, just do not be one of those ones that are rude to other ethnicities in the stores, streets, parks, etc. I see it all the time. And me being from NY, I do not just roll over.
