Sooner or later it was bound to happen.........

The hashtag #WWG1WGA, associated with the dangerous QAnon conspiracies, was used yesterday in a tweet by Maryland Del. Dan Cox (R-4, Frederick & Carroll). Apparently, the hashtag is short for the QAnon slogan of “where we go one, we go all.”

This is a dangerous development.

A YouGov survey revealed that 50 percent of Trump supporters believe “top Democrats are involved in elite child sex-trafficking rings”, in concordance with a QAnon* conspiracy's claims, with 33 percent "not sure".

That is 83% of Trump supporters (which comprise the vast majority of Republicans) who believe that the upper echelons of the Democrat party are definitely ar at least possibly (likely but not proven?) to be running a child sex trafficking ring.

*"the QAnon is a theory that alleges that a group of Satan-worshiping pedophiles, including Democratic politicians, run a global child sex-trafficking ring and is plotting against the president." Source

There is something seriously wrongheaded and dangerous in the conservative wing of American politics.

Yes because it's just those who align with the GOP who have issues right? How many Democrats believed Trump colluded with Russia? How many believed Russia tried to get Trump elected? Dems have been talking conspiracy theories for the last three years. The only difference is to get the right wing conspiracies you have to look deep on the web; to get the Dem theories just watch CNN or MSNBC.

Hell, even the NYT has noticed: https://www.nytimes.com/2017/02/15/u...ries.html?_r=0

In 2006, 58 percent of Democrat voters believed George Bush knew about the 9/11 attacks, in advance.

My personal view is that keeping an open mind is what true intellectuals do. So if someone says they aren't sure about something that hasn't been proven or dis-proven, I have much more respect for the intellectual integrity of that person than the one who simply brushes off anything that goes against their political narrative as mere poppycock.

Frankly I'm tired of all the partisan rubes and there are plenty to be found in both parties. If you think it's limited to the GOP it's probably because you're their mirror on the other side.

The thing that struck me, was that these conspiracies eventually run their course, like the birthers etc, and this one which places Trump as Q, secretly fighting the paedophiles, will likely also disappear when Trump does.
That any politician would hitch their wagon to it at this point in the cycle seems extra dumb to me.

Thanks for the post. The inability to understand the difference between fantasy and reality isn't a partisan issue.

While that may be true, it's also the case that the right engages in CT's to a much greater extent.

A Wikipedia entry is your evidence of that claim? That's funny.

Larry Sanger co-founded Wikipedia. Here's what Larry has to say about Wikipedia:

I'd argue much of what the left accepts as gospel truth on many, many issues is little more than conspiracy theories dressed up with shoddy pseudo-science that the average "believer" can't articulate or understand.

It seems Sanger played a minor role as a cofounder in 2001, left in 2002, and has been criticizing*Wiki ever since. Inability to move on.

As if Larry Sanger doesn't have a bias, agenda, or conflict of*interest, when it comes to Wikipedia. He's now with Britannica.

When telling the truth, you should tell the whole truth.....
