I am a NJ girl
looking to move to MD as hub's work
is there and the commute is taking a toll on him...

there are a LOT of posts about
how MD taxes are high, over populated state, etc.
but same is said for NJ

I'm wondering if any NJ transplants are missing NJ and why?
What differences you did notice?

I am looking to move to Cecil county as that's where
hub is working now...
I know it's rural, but we are in a rural section of NJ (yes, they do exist!!)

any help
suggestions, etc.
plus comparisons are welcome!
thanks

Cecil County is not the place to be. High taxes, no restaurants or decent shopping, and run down. You should look in Delaware. Good luck.

There is probably no state closer to Maryland than New Jersey. Cecil county is on the rural Northern part of the Eastern Shore, unlike Central Maryland in the Baltimore-Washington area, and doesn't resemble the rest of MD. But, since you live in a "rural" if you move to Cecil County you will probably miss home. I don't know about Cecil, but if you lived in Central MD you definitely would see a lot of you're Jersey friends here. Here in very populated Montgomery County it seems like every other person you meet is from New Jersey.

Similarities between Maryland and New Jersey:

-Very dense population (Maryland is fifth in the country, NJ is first)
-Very wealthy: Maryland is richest state in the country, New Jersey is second.
- Practically the same size
- Very liberal: Nearly every elected official in state and local government is a Democrat, plus the two senators and 7 out of 8 reps. in Congress.
-Both have a "shore." Ocean City and the rest of the Eastern Shore is the traditional Maryland/DC getaway.
-High cost of living, but don't think Cecil is too bad.
-And yes, very high taxes are here too (local and state). On wikipedia it says Cecil raised its property taxes 10% last May.

Hope that helps...

I miss living in a township. In MD, you live in a county.

I miss wegman's and Trader Joe's. There's none in harford county. I also miss Babies R Us.

Other than that, I find life here easier than in NJ.
