Hello everyone,

I'm looking for opinions on where to rent apartments when my husband and I move down to Maryland (I will be taking a job right by Ft. Meade). We're looking for somewhere affordable (we can afford around $1500 for a one or two bedroom apartment/townhome/home), an easy commute to Ft. Meade, with public transportation to either Baltimore or DC (my husband is looking to work in either of these two cities), and our most important criteria is SAFETY.

Can anyone give us some places/apartment complexes to look at? I've heard good things about Columbia and Crofton...any other suggestions?

Thank you!!

I'm very new to MD as well... moved here last July... I came to this site to get feedbacks and moved in with my cousin in Crofton for a month while I looked for apartments... I work in DC and my wife works in Baltimore, so we needed something in between DC and Baltimore... I looked at many apts around this area (Crofton/Odenton), read lots of apt reviews and end up living in Millersville at Berkshire apts Berkshire (http://www.berkshireapartments.com/realpage/realpage.aspx?prpURL=harpersmill - broken link)

We are very happy here.. no parking problem.. nice apts ... feel safe... we pay $1250 for 2 bedroom townhome... the section we live is Yorktowne apts... If I'm not mistaken, Ft Meade is not that far from here... so just providing u what I know... u can google the rest and find out... also, other in here can chime in more... good luck

As for the public transportation, I take MARC train from Odenton and my wife drives to Baltimore... I don't think there's a good bus service around here.

I would suggest that you look for apartments or townhomes to rent in Piney Orchard. Piney Orchard is a really nice community with housing in all price ranges ,swimming, schools, playgrounds, and even ice rinks. It is a very safe neighborhood and a great place to raise a family.
(I was a Realtor in that area 11 years ago prior to being a stay at home mom. I now live in North Carolina)

I agree that you should check out apartments in Piney Orchard. It is a nice community, and you would be about 1 mile from the MARC train's Penn line, which would take you into DC or Baltimore.
