Holy cow. I knew our car insurance premium would increase moving out of NH no matter where we went since there are so many less requirements on coverage here, but Geico informs me this morning that just for moving from the NH seacoast to Salem, our premium will go from 1445 a year to $3079! Can anyone recommend a better option with Geico in their experience with Mass insurance companies?

Commerce is a big player in Mass. If you have AAA, you get a 5% (I think) discount, and another break if they also carry your homeowners policy, if that's an option for you. I've had Commerce for about 8-9 years, and they've been fine. That price sounds high for 2 cars...not sure what you're driving. We have a lot of liability coverage and a $1,000 deductible for 2 late model Honda's, and pay about $2,000, though Salem is more costly than our town. The city/town that your car is "garaged" in has a huge impact on premiums in Mass.

We both have SUV's, but both 04's and paid off so I'm really surprised. I will check into Commerce. Thanks!

Try Progressive. I switch from Commerce to Progressive a few years ago, and my yearly rate was almost cut in half. At first I thought they made a mistake. It's climbed a bit since, but I still think they're quite a bit cheaper.

Commerce sucks. The overcharge and their service is deplorable.

COST: We had Commerce for years. I insure multiple vehicles both commercial and personal. Was SHOCKED that same policy, through Arbella was 30% less. Of course when we said we were taking our business elsewhere, Commerce wanted to "work with us."

SERVICE: We had on of our commercial vehicles involved in an accident. In a chain reaction crash, it was rear ended by another Commerce insured vehicle. The first vehicle that caused the accident was not, insured by Commerce. Commerce refused to pay the claim to fix our company vehicle. I finally called and told them I would pull my business if they did not fix the vehicle and go after the person who caused the accident to recoup the costs.

Lesson Learned:
Shop out your insurance every year with multiple carriers and agents and do NOT trust any one agent to get you the best deal.
