Hi I am looking to move to Fall River, MA but I have no family and no place to stay at. I am a single mother trying to look for new opportunities since I have had no such in Florida. Are there any shelters in the area for women with children? I have very little money mind you but I need information that way when I am in the area I know exactly what to do. Are jobs easier to find, other than Part-time jobs? I will be trying to stay at a shelter so I will start from the very bottom. I just want to be able to stand on my very own feet with my child. I would appreciate any good information you might have for me. Thank you for your time.

No one moves to Fall River to find a job, if that tells you anything.

True, it's very poor.

OP, why do you want to move to Massachusetts or specifically, the Fall River area?

To reiterate what the others have said, Fall River is not the place you want to look for work.

Unhappy to: caseyb

Honestly I just want to start anew or whatever the correct word is for it. I haven't had the luck to begin a life for myself ib order to give my kid. Done living complacently with everything. I want a job, want to go to school, want my own place, have very bad health issues and I am in desperate need of it. Don't qualify for aything here in FL because the whole family "makes too much income" even though my daughter and I are a different household. I just feel trapped in Florida as if tjere is nothing I can do to move my daughter and I forward to a better life. Besides I heard small cities are good for children to be raised in. I also heard about New Bedford. What is the information on that area?

Jobs are hard to find in both Fall River and New Bedford. You may qualify for welfare here but the cost of living is so high it won't go very far.

There are lots of better small city options for you than Fall River and New Bedford. You are already down south, I've heard Knoxville, TN has a great economy and still a very low cost of living. If your heart is set on New England for some particular reason, the only real city with a reasonable COL is Bangor, ME. The economy is not great but is certainly no worse than Fall River. It is a nice area, safe and a much better environment for kids. The winters are brutal though.
